It is with great joy and anticipation that I write this letter to the community on the first day as your new Head of School. I am truly honored to have the opportunity to continue in this role, working alongside a group of families, students, faculty and staff whom I have come to admire and think of as my family. I would be remiss if I did not begin by thanking the Head of School Search Committee, chaired by Karen Winkler, who spent countless hours thoughtfully working to determine the finalists to be presented to the Sage community. And, a special thanks to Board Chair Sue McGilvray and our volunteer Board of Trustees who tirelessly work to secure the sustainability of Sage. And to you, the Sage Families, my deep appreciation for lending your unwavering support over these past ten months. In the last 24 hours since the Head of School announcement, I have been overwhelmed by your kind words and could not feel more fortunate to be part of your school community and lives.
I don’t remember the exact date in 2013 when I first sat in on a circle time in the Pre-K classroom, but I clearly remember observing inspired teaching and watching students respond with enthusiastic engagement. I could see that Sage was truly a place for gifted children to grow and to discover how to fall in love with learning. I knew that I wanted to be a part of these students’ journey through Sage, and witness the impact our program would undoubtedly have on them over the next ten years. Since then, Sage has not disappointed. Each day continues to be filled with moments like that first one, reminding me why I have spent my career in education and why I am excited to be a champion for Sage and your child.
As Head of School, I have the honor and the privilege to lead our school alongside the most capable faculty and staff with whom I have ever had the opportunity to work. I walk into all of our classrooms knowing in my heart that we have assembled the best team of gifted educators to serve our students and their families.
Through our expanding communication efforts, including our planned series of focus groups, I am hopeful that we will connect on many levels and that I will hear from each and everyone of you about how we together can enhance the experience of our children.
I look forward to working with all of you in the coming years, and I remain dedicated to keeping The Sage School at the forefront of gifted education.
